Rethinking career pathways

Until recently, most college-bound students focused on getting accepted to a “good” college and maintaining a high GPA throughout their college career, seeing the diploma as their ticket to a good job. College rankings, campus visits, marketing materials, and advice from family, friends, and guidance counselors have served as the main sources of information to guide students’ college search. But Smart cities make it possible for students to employ a more data-driven approach to college decision-making process and rethink outcomes associated with different educational pathways. With greater transparency, students will be able to assess college value in terms of access, affordability, and outcomes, including average tuition costs, loan debt, graduation rates, and graduate earning.
